30th Annual Women of Achievement awards dinner

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The 30th Annual Women of Achievement banquet was held Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at the Ohio University-Zanesville/Zane State Campus Center.

About 300 people attended the event to celebrate a few of the women in the community who contribute so much to it. Event Chair Christine Shaw said she loves the response from the recipients when they learn they’ve been selected for one of the awards.

“They’re so humbled and they do what they do every day and they don’t expect anything in return, so that makes this even more special,” said Shaw. “To be able to celebrate the day-to-day giving back to our community is so rewarding.”

Lifetime Service Award recipient Mary Perone was honored to be given the award for her work with the Fellowship of Christ’s Community, Christ’s Table, Hospice and her involvement in the community.

“[It’s] just something I’ve always done. I’ve been a nurse, I’ve been a school teacher, and it’s just, I feel like we’re put here on Earth to serve others,” said Perone “It’s very very humbling when I look at the names of past recipients. It’s quite an honor.”

Seven other women were also honored at the banquet. All proceeds from the event go toward providing scholarships for women who attend Zane State College or Ohio University Zanesville.

The other award recipients were:
Becky Joseph, Josephine Phillips Health Care Award
