Celebrating Success: employee panel discussion

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Muskingum Valley Educational Service Center brought in guest speakers to talk to current students about future career possibilities.

Former students, who have jobs in the community, spoke to the current students about how to get a job. Intervention Specialist Zeb Wood said these guest speakers show how people can overcome their daily challenges.

“Some of them graduated just recently, some of them are a little bit older, but they always tend to volunteer. They’re jumping up, first in line to come back and talk to this. We also have their employees come in. We have a few of them, some of those employers are really happy to come talk to us and provide their information,” said Woods.

Wood said the current students and their parents find this event very helpful. He said the parents, in particular, are given information they would likely not receive otherwise.

“It’s providing them information on how to get through some obstacle, how to overcome disabilities. What we like to do, is to try and help the parents understand that even though their child may have a disability they can still contribute to society,” said Woods.

Opportunities for Ohioans With Disabilities, Muskingum County Board of Developmental Disabilities, and Ohio Means Jobs also helped out at the event.
