Water line breaks in North Zanesville

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- A water main break caused a muddy mess for some businesses at Northpointe Retail Center.

Fire Chief Eric Waltemire said the break happened around four o’clock this morning. The water department received a report that the towers on the north side of the city were dropping. Waltemire said about one point five million gallons of water were lost.

“It’s an eight inch main. Being that it’s private the management group has to line up the repair for that,” said Waltemire. “The city will not repair that. So that’s what they’re working on right now.”

Waltemire said a plumber was on site lining up contractors. The break did affect the businesses in the complex.

“Everything from Kohl’s to Hobby Lobby right now is without water. There are all on fire watch for us. So that’s why we’re up [here]. It affects their fire systems so that’s why I’m here,” said Waltemire.

At this time it is unknown when the main will be fixed and water restored to the businesses.
