‘Operation Feed’ for Muskingum County Hunger Network

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Muskingum County Hunger Network kicks off its 33rd Annual Operation Feed Drive, Friday April 20th with a food collection.

The food collection is where people can purchase food at both the South and North Wal-Mart and Riesbeck’s Downtown and donate that food. All the food collected will benefit the 15 local food pantries and the four hot meal programs. Eastside Community Ministries Executive Director Jamie Trout said the food donated helps the Hunger Network serve over 800,000 meals last year.

“For us at Eastside, we do around 5,000 meals per month. And we get to see people from so many different ways of life. We have the elderly. We have grandparents who have custody of their children. We serve a variety of people. A lot of people think those are just people that are not working or don’t want to help themselves and that’s the furthest thing from the truth,” said Trout.

Another event that will be going on, as part of Operation Feed Drive, is the Italian Sub Sale. Trout said this sub sale is a way to not only feed yourself but also feed the hungry.

“We have a goal of selling 1000 subs his year. You get an Italian Sub, a bag of chips, and a cookie for $6. That is going on Wednesday, May 2nd,” said Trout.
