Postal worker retiring after nearly 40 years
ZANESVILLE, Ohio- A familiar face at a Zanesville post office will be retiring after nearly 40 years.
If you have walked into the Post Office on Zane Street, over the last 20 years, you’ll have likely seen Teresa Hildebrand hard at work. In just over a week if you see her at the post office, it will be because she is mailing a letter or to see old friends. Because as of Thursday, May 3rd, as she said, she’ll be moving into her second career.
“I’ve got a small farm and lots to do and lots of volunteer work. So, the sun shines out and that was my decision. Second career, second life,” said Hildebrand.
Besides the 20 years of working at the post office on Zanes street, she worked for nearly 20 years at the post office on McIntire Avenue. She said, over those nearly 40 years, so much has changed.
“There was hand sorting, the trucks came in at night, you spent all night unloading trucks, opening sacks, dumping them, sorting them, putting them back in sacks, putting sacks back on the truck, now it’s all scanned,” said Hildebrand.
Hildebrand said what she will miss, and remember the most, is the customers that she has gotten to know over the years.
