Eastside Community Ministry- Community Garden
ZANESVILLE, Ohio- A local organization has an area where people can garden free of charge.
Eastside Community Ministry had it’s garden kick-off event this morning. Anyone who is interested in growing their own fresh food, such as peppers, tomatoes, or zucchini, was able to come out and plant for free.
“It provides space for people who don’t have room in their own yards to have a garden. It’s a place to make acquaintances and friends in the community and it beautifies the community, we think too,” said Board of Directors President, Sally Goins.
Goins said this is the fourth year of the community garden and it has grown tremendously over the years. She said when it first started there were only three garden beds. Now there are over 20. She said people can plant for themselves or others.
“We welcome donations of what people grow, if they want to give us what they’ve grown, that’s fine and we do keep a couple beds ourselves for things to go in our food pantry. Most of it goes to peoples homes though,” said Goins.
