Crisis averted at local apartment complex

2018.05.02 Fire Gas Leak

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- A crisis was averted Wednesday afternoon at a local apartment complex.

Zanesville Fire Department responded to a call at 450 Baker Street that the bushes and air conditioning unit behind the building was on fire.

“Upon our arrival, the bushes the air conditioner were on fire but we also noticed there was a gas line before the shutoff that was also on fire so immediate call made to Columbia Gas, they’re on scene now trying to get the gas shut off,” said Assistant Fire Chief Doug Hobson. “We’re staged right now just to keep everybody safe.”

A few of the apartments were evacuated for safety and there is damage to the siding on the building. The cause of the fire is believed to be the air conditioning unit. There were no injuries reported.
