Guernsey County man killed in Deputy involved shooting

FAIRVIEW, Ohio- One man is dead following a deputy involved shooting in Guernsey County.

The Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office reports they responded to a call at a home Sunday afternoon in regards to a man threatening to hurt himself. The deputies were dispatched to take the man to the hospital by doctors order, but upon arrival to the home the man was non-compliant and would not come out of the house.

The deputies attempted to talk to the man through a screened window for an hour but were unable to calm him down. The man eventually pointed a firearm at the deputies. Sheriff Jeffrey D. Paden said the deputies shot the man, killing him.

The 73-year-old man has not been identified at this time. No one else was hurt during the incident. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
