ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Elementary school students are finding ways to give back to the community.

The fourth graders from Foxfire Elementary school participated in painting Kindness Rocks donated by Lones Stone Company and choose to present their stones to the residents of Primrose Retirement Community.

“The kids were painting rocks donated by the Lones Stone Company and they did a whole group painting for the Kindness Rocks,” said teacher Tammy Powell. “And since the residents of Primrose had done an act of kindness out to OUZ, we decided that it was a good time to show them an act of kindness.”

The students spent two days working on painting the stones and talking about what kindness means.

“It teaches them to be kind to one another and it’s one of the things that we talk about at school,” said Powell. “We talk about character and being kind to other people and what’s right, what’s wrong, and that type of thing. They’re ten years old and they’ve grown in that direction amazingly this year. I’m so proud of all of them.”

Students at Foxfire have also been giving back by raising money for the Muskingum County Dog Pound. This has given them a chance to apply classroom lessons to the real world. So far they have raised $200 and have helped buy food and treats for the dogs.
