CHAMPS Summer camp for boys

Camp

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Its boys only for a new summer camp run by Muskingum Behavioral Health.

A day camp will be held on June 1st for fourth, fifth, and sixth-grade boys. The idea from the camp, called CHAMPS (Character Honesty Appreciation Manners Principals Self-Esteem), came from the success of a similar camp for girls, called STARS.

“This year we’re starting a new camp called CHAMPS camp and it’s for boys, it stemmed off of our camp of STARS for girls,” said Kris Headley, chief of Prevention and Recovery Service Department at Muskingum Behavioral Health. “We had such a success with STARS that we thought we needed something for boys, so this year on June 1st we’re going to kick off a new camp. It’s going to be a one-day day camp, and we’re hoping that it goes well and we’ll increase the days next year.”

Headley said the camp will be very hands-on for the boys and will give them a chance to develop friendships, healthy habits, and build self-esteem. They will also have a chance to meet people from different career paths and learn about future jobs.

“Of course I want the boys to be able to take the new friendships with them,” said Headley. “I also want them to have confidence and learn about, know some of the careers that are available out there that they might not have otherwise heard about that might spark some interest with them for the future.”
