Retire

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Family and friends gathered Friday to celebrate the retirement of a long time community figure.

Fred Buck has decided to hang up his many hats after forty years of service to the City of Zanesville. Buck served as a firefighter, worked in city maintenance, and most recently served as the Public Safety Director. He said right now it feels great to be retired but he will miss the people.

“Good, very good, very good,” said Buck. “Its been a long ride but its been a great ride. I’ve got a lot of friends here today, its been fun. What am I going to miss the most? Well, actually the people, the people. But also my crews, all the safety forces. I had a great crew of people, can’t say enough good about them.”

Buck said he feels like he was able to accomplish a lot during his time as Public Safety Director including a lot of work with the fire and police departments.

“No actually there’s been a lot, you know, we did a lot with the fire department, we have mostly new vehicles,” said Buck. “Done a lot with the police department. We opened the jail back up my first year back, only had one-floor open. And then just getting manpower up on the streets so everybody’s working.”

Buck said now that he’s retired he wants to spend lots of time with his family, hike the Appalachian Trail, and to enjoy time relaxing.
