John G. Dudas, 94 of Zanesville, died 9:25 AM, Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at Brookdale in Zanesville. He was born Sunday, December 30, 1923, in Zanesville, the son of Peter Dudas and Mary (Nagy) Dudas. He married Lillian “Bill” (Smith) Dudas on Saturday, May 8, 1948, and was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church.

 

John served his country during WWII in the United States Army. John was the District Manager for Equitable Life Insurance for many years and in the late 1960’s he opened his own insurance agency and real estate firm the John Dudas Agency, Inc., retiring two years ago. In his youth John was a boxer and baseball pitcher; he loved to play golf and was a golf ball collector; and was an avid bowler, bowling several 300 games. John enjoyed his membership with the Eagles, American Legion, Knights of Columbus and especially VFW Post 1058, where he could be seen having lunch often with his friends.

 

John is survived by four children: Rebecca (Joe) Haley of California, Mary (Michael) Cain of Tennessee, Marcy (David) Sowers and Peter Dudas both of Zanesville; eight grandchildren: Jeremy Haley, Andrea (Ryan) Fitzpatrick, Stephen Dudas, Michelle (Bobby) Rutledge,  John Gibson, Ryan (Caitlyn) Sowers, Megan (Justin) Dosch and Dillon Dudas; and nine great grandchildren.

 

In addition to his parents John was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years: Lillian “Bill” Dudas who died September 5, 2013; one son: John Dudas; one grandson: Corey Sowers; one brother: George Dudas and two sisters: Mary Dudas and Anne Blocher

 

Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Sunday, October 14, 2018, at the Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, where a Christian Vigil will be held at 6:45 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated 10:30 AM, Monday, October 15, 2018, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 955 East Main Street, Zanesville, with Fr. Martin J. Ralko as Celebrant. John will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife in Mt. Olive Cemetery with VFW Post 1058, American Legion Post 29 and the United States Army conducting full military honors.
