Sheriff Will Run in November As Write-In

A ruling from the Ohio State Supreme Court removes the Noble County Sheriff from the May election ballot.

Noble County Board of Elections Director Donna Moore confirmed that the Court’s ruling Tuesday will remove current Noble County Sheriff Stephen Hannum from the Democratic primary ballot. It means Caldwell Police Chief Denny Knowlton will run unopposed for the Democratic nomination and their are no Republican candidates.

But that doesn’t mean the race is over. Sheriff Hannum says the court ruled four-to-three on the decision based on his secondary education. Hannum says they are only counting some of his college credits, but the split decision shows even the court is in disagreement on the situation.

Hannum says he’s enrolled for the Spring quarter at Washington State Community College and will without a doubt have the required credits by mid-June. He will run as a write-in candidate in November.

Hannum has been Noble County Sheriff since May 2009.
