Dresden Homecoming Queen Rides in Style
Dresden Homecoming Queen Cassi Carroll rode in style today at the homecoming parade.
Unlike the other winners and attendants, Cassi was seated atop her family’s bright orange tractor–a tractor with a lot of history. The family used to own the Allis-Chammers tractor dealership and restored this particular tractor.
“Basically we took it in the shop and evaluated it’s parts,” said Co-Owner Toot Moore. “It was worn. We tore it completely down. It was good enough we didn’t have to take the motor apart. Everything that we saw that needed to be fixed, we fixed.”
Cassi says she was proud to ride on her family’s tractor.
“I had a choice between my grandpa’s tractor or my great uncle’s car and I said I want the tractor,” she said. “I drove it to prom, too. I liked it a lot.”
“When she asked me to drive her, it was an honor to drive her in the parade tonight,” said Marlin Moore. “With a little bit of history, 40 years ago. It made me think about how things were 40 years ago, too.”
The annual parade started at 6:30 and begins Homecoming Weekend, which lasts until June 21. Homecoming has rides, games and fun.
City officials hope homecoming will bring lots of visitors to the village.
