First Friday Feature Artist: Alma Mae Hoopes

The ZAAP Art Gallery is also featuring an artist for the art walk.

Alma Mae Hoopes has been a painter for almost 20 years. Hoopes says she was honored to be featured this month.

“I was glad it was July because I like to paint flags,” said Hoopes. “So I fit right in with the theme for July. I like to do flags and flags and flowers. I think it’s the folds I really like.”

Hoopes had a special opportunity to paint her favorite flags when she and her husband were helping the red cross in new york during 9/11.

“As I was walking, there were flags in all the windows,” she said. “In one of the windows one was just laying there like this so I took a picture of it. It’s one of my favorite flags.”

ZAAP is one of the many galleries open Friday during the art walk. They will be open from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
