Following in His Family’s Race Tracks

One local boy is following in his family’s race tracks.

Yes, you read that right–race tracks.

Twelve-year old Eric Ours will try to do what his mother and two aunts attempted — win a world championship — the Soapbox Derby Championship held in Akron.

Eric says his family had a role in getting him started.

“They asked me if I wanted to race and I said yea, so that’s how I got into it,” said Eric. “We went to rallies and then last year we went to locals in lancaster, where I got third.”

Eric has plenty of trophies from his races to add to the family collection.

“We’ve been around for a while,” said Eric’s mother Erica Jones. “Eric’s car is actually the same color that mine was, so he has the same paint scheme. You know it’s a Howard car when you see it.”

But whatever Eric’s family secret is, he’s not telling.

“I don’t know,” he said.

“You don’t know or you don’t want to tell us,” asked WHIZ reporter Audry Kensicki.

“I don’t know,” he said.

Eric will travel to Akron with his family July 20th for the championship.

He says he will have to race in several heats before being able to place.
