21st Lace Up 4 Kids Kicks Off!

Its that time of year again, the 21st annual Lace Up For Kids shoe drive kicked off Tuesday afternoon.

For 20 years the event has been putting new shoes on the feet of kids who need them the most. This year- Wendy’s Restaurants the Whiz Media Group and United Way are ready for another great event. “Its a great opportunity for us to give back to the community, Dave Thomas used to always say, “Give back to the community that supports you.” and this was started by Bob Goodrich 20 years ago and its still going strong today.” Wendy’s Owner, Tim Thompson.

Anyone who applies in the Lace Up for Kids shoe drive does have to meet income guidelines, which could go to show how important every donation really is. “We feel that this year there will more of a need than ever for shoes for the children going back to school, there’s people struggling out there and this is a great opportunity for us to help and for Muskingum county to really give back to the children.”

Shoes can be dropped off at any of the five Wendy’s locations throughout Zanesville as well as the Whiz-TV station from now until the end of August. Distribution day will be August 21st at the Zanesville Civic League. “Last year we gave away a little bit over 1200 shoes and we’re hoping that we can at least maintain that or maybe even hit the 1300 mark this year and get all the kids ready to go back to school.” Says Thompson.

To apply for a chance to have your kids fitted and given a sharp new pair of shoes for school- applications will be available starting next week on whiznews.com as well as any community agency or the United Way. Deadline for applications is August 14th.
