Local Democrats Mourn The Loss of Sen. Kennedy

It is a sad day in Washington D.C. and the rest of the country as politicians and Americans alike mourn the death of Senator Edward Kennedy. Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland says Kennedy was a towering figure whose life exemplified service to others. Locally, Democratic Party members say they are sad to see him pass, but proud of the legacy he left.

“His willingness and need to care for people, his ambition to see that everyone had a fair shake and I think that’s probably going to be his outstanding virtue I would say,” tells Darrell Lear, President of the Muskingum County Democrats.

Even Republican Senator George Voinovich says Kennedy was a man of passion and resolve. While brain cancer ended his life early, Democrats say his spirit will live on.

“It is a sorry day for America, it was his intent to see America be a better place for everybody and he did as good as he could while he was here,” says Lear.

Kennedy will be buried in Arlington Cemetary near his brothers. Flags are to be flown at half staff until August 30th in remembrance of Sen. Kennedy.
