Ohio State President Visits Mattingly

Ohio State University President E. Gordon Gee was in Zanesville today touring a local business that’s had a positive impact on the local and state economy.

Mattingly Foods on State Street held a tailgate to party to welcome President Gee to their business. Barbara Callahan, president of the 3rd generation family-owned company, says they’ve been anxiously anticipating his arrival.

“We have been so excited. All the employees have been excited and enthused. We’re all Buckeyes, no matter where we went to school we’re all Buckeyes. It was a great start for the Buckeye season and our company,” says Callahan.

While visiting Mattingly Gee took over the driver’s seat of one of the company’s semi-trucks.

Since taking over as president of Ohio State in 2007, he has made it his mission to travel the state visiting fellow Buckeyes.

“I’m visiting 44 this summer. I visited 88 last summer, you know, so I’m moving around a bit, but it’s a great way for me to get to learn the state. My university belongs to the people of this state and I want to do everything I possibly can to make sure they feel good about and that I understand what I need to do to be of help to them,” says Gee.

Gee will visit Popeye’s Soda Shop in Dresden Friday at 4 p.m. to meet with area alumni, students and families.
