Dresden Melon Festival Gives Residents Something Sweet
There is something sweet growing in Dresden.
Crowds came out for the annual Dresden melon festival today. But what makes a Dresden melon so special?
“I think it is the soil that they are grown in, it is a sandy type soil and they like it and it makes them very sweet and you just can’t beat the taste of them,” tells Shawn Hutchinson of Miller’s Dresden Melons.
Besides melons, the festival had entertainment, a petting zoo and silent auction. But, of course, the star of the festival was the Dresden melon. Vendors say people love it because there is no other fruit like it.
“Just for the taste because it is like taking a bite of honey.”
The festival was today only, but next year vendors are hoping to make the festival a two day event.
