ZPD at Full Staff

The Zanesville Police Department is finally at full staff, something it hasn’t seen in more than three years.

Derek Shilling is the second police officer to be swore in, in a week.

He says he’s excited to join the department.

“I spent eight years in the United States Marine Corp., and I worked alongside the Military Police. I knew I wanted to do it, ” says Shilling.

Shilling is originally from Zanesville and says he wants to stay in the area for a while.

Mayor Howard Zwelling was on hand for the swearing in ceremony. He says the police officers and firemen are true heroes in the community.

“They all put their lives on the line, and we found that out a couple weeks ago with Officer Schiele and Bosco. I can’t thank them enough because of what they do for the people of the city of Zanesville, ” says Zwelling.

He says having the Zanesville Police Department at full staff will help ensure safety within the city.
