Code Enforcement Committee Gathers

The Zanesville Code Enforcement Committee says there are just over 400 vacant homes south of I-70. Half of them are unlivable. The committee is hoping to have 30 to 45 of these structures torn down by the end of 2010. The committee says they will begin surveying north of I-70 this winter.

The committee also discussed yard sales, garage sales and side walk sales. According to city code a person may have three yard sales a year, but each may not exceed three days. The committee is considering legislation that would require a permit for people to hold yard sales. If enacted, the permit would not cost any money.

Tim Smith, the head of Building and Code Enforcement, says he wants to put together legislation to issue tickets to people who illegally dump trash or vehicles.
