Mayor Proclaims Sunday Crop Hunger Walk Day
Mayor Howard Zwelling proclaimed Sunday, October 11th, Muskingum County-Zanesville Crop Hunger Walk Day.
A Crop Hunger Walk sponsored by Church World Services will take place Sunday at the Zanes Landing Park at 1:30 p.m. Walkers are asked to collect money from sponsors a head of time and 25% of money will stay locally.
"The rest of the money is used by Church World Service for mainly self help projects like refugee assistance and maybe wells, setting up seeds for crops and that is both internationally and within the Untied States," says Gwen Mendenhall, the co-cordinator of the Crop Hunger Walk in Zanesville.
The goal this year is $16,000 dollars. Organizers are hoping to have more than 300 walkers
"Zanesville is historically a very generous community and so is all of Muskingum County, people will show up to walk for this cause and we have to to try and do everything we can to stomp out hunger," says Mayor Zwelling.
Mayor Zwelling says last year’s crop walk in Zanesville was the 7th largest in Ohio.
