Fairfield Health Department May See Layoffs

The Fairfield County Health Department is facing some financial problems and could be forced to lay off as many as 11 employees.

Public Information Officer Pam Delay says the layoffs are an option the Board of Health is considering, but she says it is also looking at other cost-saving options.

Delay says the financial problems stem from the health department losing grants, property values not going up, and certain programs not being supported by the community, but she says the current situation isn’t affecting the health department’s H1N1 and seasonal flu clinics. She says it has been working with other agencies in town that have helped in recruiting healthcare volunteers.

The Fairfield Board of Health plans to discuss the health department’s budget at the next meeting, which will take place November 12th at 6 p.m. in the Fairfield Medical Center.
