Animal Shelter Pet Of The Week

Thursday evening The Animal Shelter Society held its first annual "Yappie Hour" event where they raised over $6,000 to put towards pet care and supplies. Friday it was back to business as usually at the shelter as they introduced their sweet Pet of The Week.

Honey is a 10-month-old boxer mix who is looking for her forever home. With her sandy brown fur and big puppy dog eyes how could you not want to take this lovable pup home.

"Kind of a small dog about a 30 pound dog and would be a great pet for someone looking for a smaller dog to keep in the house. We invite people to come in, we’re open until 5:30 Friday, at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Come in get to know her, take her in the playroom see if she’s right for you," said Animal Shelter Executive Director, Jody Murray.

During our conversation with Murray he also wanted to comment on the recent distemper outbreak in the pound and wanted to emphasize the fact that the animal shelter is a separate entity from the pound.

"The distemper that is at the pound it’s not at the animal shelter. We’ve been following protocols recommended by our shelter vet, we did have a couple dogs a couple months ago that came from the pound. We have since isolated them, we have tested them, they’ve tested negative they’re fine. But, there was just a lot of questions last night about our dogs here at the shelter and we just wanted to clarify that we do not have any dogs here with distemper at this point," said Murray.

Murray also informed us that they are working to clear up the issue of distemper at the pound as quickly as possible but shelter dogs are safe, healthier, and ready for you to adopt.
