Local Team Brings Home Gold
One team of talented girls are now the reigning state champions.
The Zanesville Gymnastics level five team brought home the gold from the state championship held on Sunday.
"We had quite a few state champions in the events and we had one level five all around champion," said Zanesville Gymnastics Owner Monty Mitchell. "It’s been a great season. They’ve been doing well all year. The coaches have worked hard and the parents have been really supportive. It’s been a great year for them."
The girls worked hard, fighting against 30 teams, to place first and are proud of what they accomplished.
"It was a really exciting day," said Level-5 All-Around Champion Hana Le. "Everybody got pretty high scores, but I was lucky enough to be the all-around champion."
"I was very surprised," said Level-6 All-Around Champion Maria Johnson. "I didn’t believe it. And then I got first."
"I was nervous the first time I saw the gym," said Floor Champion Jodi Stoner. "I thought I was going to fall on some stuff. But once I got on, it got easier for me.
The girls competed in four areas–the beam, vault, floor and bars.
This is the fourth state championship for the gym.
