Heath Bank Robbery
The Heath Police Department is investigating an afternoon robbery at a PNC Bank Branch on Hebron Road.
Police Chief Tony Shepherd says his department received an alert of an activated hold-up alarm around 12:15 p.m.
When one of his patrolmen was en route to the scene, he says a customer who witnessed the crime called in to give a description of the get-a-way car.
"We’re looking for a late model Subaru station wagon, silver in color. Now, the person that entered the bank was a white male, short stature, " says Shepherd.
Shepherd says the man casually went up to the teller, demanded money, showed a firearm that was attached to him at the waisteband, and walked out of the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash.
"It was actually very calm. As a matter of fact, one of my retired officers was one of the people in the bank, and he did not realize-as did the other customers-thank a bank robbery was occurring, " says Shepherd.
Customers were evacuated following the incident, and the bank did close.
