Missing Child Returns Home
A 7-year-old is returning home safe after being taken Monday evening.
The Zanesville Police Department said around 5:19 Monday they were advised Jarrell Newman had been taken from 1105 McIntire Avenue.
Officers responding found that a non custodial parent, the boy’s mother, Murita Newman, had fled with the child and was believed to be heading toward Baltimore, Md.
Shortly, after 1am Tuesday, Lt. Bill Shaw said they received word that Jarrell was found in Wheeling, West Va.
Police there encountered Murita Newman at a convenience store where she was claiming to be lost.
When officers were assisting her, the computer database showed the Amber Alert information.
Jarrell’s grandparents are traveling to Wheeling to pick him up and Murita Newman is in custody awaiting extradition back to Ohio on an interfering with custody charge.
