Jennings R. “Duke” Tolley, 1928-2018

Jennings “Duke” R. Tolley, 90 of Zanesville, died 8:30 AM, Saturday, November 3, 2018, at his home following a short illness. He was born Sunday, October 21, 1928, in West Virginia, the son of William Tolley and Laura Dollie (Staats) Tolley.
Duke was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Korean War. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and coaching Babe Ruth Baseball. He was an avid golfer enjoying playing the game until last year and was the Marble Champion of McLuney High School.
Duke is survived by seven children: Deborah Tolley of Zanesville, James (Cheryl) Tolley of Zanesville, Gary (Jaime) Tolley of Florida, Duke (Mell) Tolley, Jr. of Zanesville, Linda (Joseph) Colella of Zanesville, Wayne (Fran) Tolley of Massachusetts and Michael (Mary) Tolley of Zanesville; nineteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and two sisters: Joyce (Terry) O’Donnell of Hopewell and Rowena (Tom) Cosgrave of Zanesville.
In addition to his parents, Duke was preceded in death by his wife: Lorraine Roderick Tolley; three sisters: Ruth Bohner, Dorothy Pletcher and Dollie Embrey and two brothers: Ray Tolley and Cyrus Tolley.
The family would like to thank Genesis Hospice & Palliative Care and his two caregivers: Randi Bagley-McHenry and Ariel Wilson for the special care they provided to Duke.
A combined Gathering of Family and Friends to Celebrate the Life of Duke and his son-in-law: Joe Colella will be held from 4:30 to 7:00 PM, Saturday, November 17, 2018, at the American Legion Post 29, 27 South Third Street, Zanesville. Full Military Honors for Duke will be presented at 5:00 PM, conducted by the United States Navy, VFW Post 1058 and American Legion Post 29.
