Charlotte U. Untied, 1922-2019
Charlotte U. Untied, 96 of Zanesville, died 8:55 PM, Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at her home following a lengthy illness. She was born Saturday, October 21, 1922, in Somerset, the daughter of Anthony Schmeltzer and Inez C. (Burgoon) Schmeltzer. She married Myrl F. Untied, Jr. on Saturday, September 29, 1945, and was a lifelong member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church.
Charlotte retired in 1989, from Zanesville City Schools following several years of service. She was a member of Daughters of Isabella at St. Nicholas Church where she also served as Eucharistic Minister. Charlotte was dedicated to her brother and sister, raising them following the death of their mother. She loved to sew, make curtains and decorate her home. Charlotte was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother who loved to spend time with her family and friends.
Charlotte is survived by six children: Michael J. (Vicki) Untied, Patrick M. Untied, Bonnie A. Dooley, Mary Jo Untied and Linda (Joseph) Orourke all of Zanesville and Thomas A. (Kara) Untied of Florida; eight grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and one sister: Esther (Larry) Young.
In addition to her parents, Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband of over 71 years: Myrl F. Untied, Jr. who died January 12, 2017; three brothers: Walter, Leo & Hugh Schmeltzer and two sisters: Margaret Dutton & Mae Sigrist.
Friends may call from 3:00 to 6:00 PM, Monday, January 21, 2019, at the Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, where a Christian Vigil will be held at 5:45 PM. Visitation will also be held from 9:00 to 10:00 AM, Tuesday, at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will follow 10:30 AM, Tuesday, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 955 East Main Street, Zanesville, with Fr. Martin J. Ralko as celebrant. Charlotte will be laid to rest beside her husband in Mt. Olive Cemetery.
