Free Parent Training
Parents are being encouraged to research their child’s education.
The Region 12 State Support Team offered free parent training at the Cambridge Middle School Saturday afternoon. The conference focused on the opportunities and challenges of having a child with disabilities.
"To get parents in to help educate them on what services are available for their children and to bring school districts, the Ohio Department of Education, parents together to talk about how they can best plan for their child’s future," said Special Education Coordinator John Rocchi.
Advocates, educators, and other professionals were on site discussing topics like individualized education plans, addressing behavioral issues, and transitioning from school-age to adult living.
"If you’re knowledgeable about the laws and about what your child can access and what’s available and what’s out there you can provide that information to the school system and they start to look at developing a team with you rather than seeing you as adversarial," said parent Robin Bowdish.
The Region 12 State Support Team works with 12 counties in the region, covering 42 school districts.
