Health Department: Well Water Advisory Issued

Health1

The Zanesville Muskingum County Health Department has issued a well water advisory.  It’s due to the recent flooding of the Muskingum River.  The Health Department says if your water well may have been submerged by flood waters, it could become contaminated.  Health Department officials are advising homeowners with water wells to NOT use the water for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth or preparing food until the water is disinfected and tested as safe.  Floodwaters are commonly contaminated with sewage and other debris, which can cause serious health problems.  Drink only bottled water until your supply is tested and found safe.  Health Department officials say boiling water kills harmful bacteria and parasites.  Bringing water to a rolling boil for one minute kills most organisms.  For disinfection procedures and information or household cleanup, visit www.zmchd.org.
