Obtaining Ohio Birth Certficates Much Easier

Obtaining your birth certificate just got a little easier for Southeast Ohio residents.

The Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department has announced you can now obtain birth certificates regardless of the county where the person was born.

"People that are traveling, if they need their passport and if they need to get their birth certificate and they are in the zanesville area or they work in the zanesville area and they’re trying to get it during business hours, they can come down here on their lunch break," says Corrie Marple, Vital Statistics Registrar.

Marple says if you know your going to need a birth certificate, make sure you have the person’s full name, date of birth, as well as the names of the parents when you come into the health department.

"We don’t give birth records ready in advance but we do encourage people if they have a question to call in and we can double check that we can access their record or we can answer questions about their record if they’re concerned that maybe theirs is one of the weird ones that isn’t on file. "

The cost of each certificate is 22 dollars payable by cash or check and the department’s hours are monday through friday 8am to 4pm.
