Keeping Pets Warm in Winter
Coats for dogs are not just a fashion statement they also add an extra layer and with the cold weather here to stay it is important your indoor and outdoor pets are kept warm.
If you are comfortable with the temperature inside your house chances are your pets will be too and they will not want to stay outside.
"You will probably see a decrease in the amount of time they want to spend outside. Let them do their business, and come back into where it is warm and they are use to being " states Larry Hostetler, Muskingum County Animal Shelterer Executive Director.
Leaving them outside for a short time will help keep them warm, but even if your pet does want to stay inside they need exercise.
"If you are use to letting them out 3 or 4 times maybe 6 or 7 times a day so that way they are still getting exercise – going out, but not staying out as long" says Hostetler.
If you have outdoor pets they need a warm place to stay. Use hay or blankets to create a warm and dry indoor/ outdoor environment. Also, always check to be sure they have fresh water and the water has not frozen.
