Third House Fire in 2 days for SE Ohio

Flames take over the basement of a home on Foxfire Road in South Zanesville. The renter of the home who did not want to be named said she was trying to put another log in her wood stove and a log that was on fire fell onto her carpeting. She tried to put the fire out, but it took over her basement.

"The fire is pretty well extinguished we got one interior wall we got to open up make sure the fire didn’t extend up through it but, the worst damage is some floor joints burnt out in the basement " Chief Allen Deaver.

She was the only one home and got out of the home safely. Fire Chief Deaver does not feel the home will be a total loss. Though fighting in the cold proved difficult.

" It slows us down a little bit; getting here was a challenge in and of itself because of the road conditions" said Deaver.

The owner has insurance and the renter of the home will be staying with friends and family.
