Superbowl Sunday
Super Bowl Sunday is the biggest day out of the year for beer sales. It is a day when $90 million will be gambled in Vegas alone and $20 billion will be gambled world wide. This makes it a tough time for recovering addicts.
"The Superbowl is a way of re-enforcing those behaviors b/c there are more people who are drinking – you are around more people who are drinking for people who are in recovery it is a difficult day "Steve Carrell, Muskingum Behavioral Health Center.
When a game will be close like this one, Packers are estimated to win by a margin of 2.5, gambling is even more of an issue.
"For the gambler the issues are if they won the bet or bets that re-enforces continued behavior. If they lost the bet for people with gambling addictions. That re-enforces in their minds that if I had another chance I could win that money and more back" said Carrell.
Youth tend to be affected by the Superbowl too. They see the funny, cool commercials; then see the adult behavior. It can be the begining of bad habits.
