Tuesday Night Hoops 2.15.11

The first time Zanesville and Tri-Valley squared off, the Blue Devils cruised to a 20 point victory. Tuesday night in Dresden was a much different tale. After scoring only 30 points in the entire game January Eighth at Zanesville, the Scotties had 31 with 1:39 remaining in the third quarter, taking a nine point lead into the final frame. That’s when the Zanesville magic finally made its way to Dresden. Thanks to a 20-9 fourth quarter, featuring three pointers from Christian Meyers, Kade Haddox, and Tanner Gibson, the Blue Devils were able to outlast Tri-Valley, winning by a final score of 44-42. Zanesville’s 12th consecutive win did not come easy, leading only at the 5-2 mark and finally at 40-39, the Blue Devils were down by as much as eleven multiple times to a Tri-Valley team that showed no signs of relenting. After being shutout of the scorebook in the first game, Bryan Schley was five of six from three point range for 15 points, as brother Matt poured in 18 points to lead all scorers. Down the stretch though, Gibson proving why he should be the frontrunner for Division II player of the year, scoring 15 points, hitting big shots from behind the arc and at the line to secure the victory for Zanesville. Blue Devils will next take the floor Saturday in their regular season finale against Hilliard Davidson. Tri Valley will next play in the Division I Central District tournament at Lakewood High School on Tuesday, February 22nd at 6 PM against Grove City.
