Oler Changes Plea – One Charge Dropped

A former Tri-Valley School bus driver charged in a fatal accident appeared in Muskingum County Court Friday Morning for a change of plea hearing. 47-year-old Carol Oler who earlier pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor counts of vehicular homicide, vehicular manslaughter and failure to control – today entered a no contest plea to vehicular manslaughter and failure to control. She was convicted on both those charges, but a third more serious misdemeanor count of vehicular homicide was dropped. The fatal school bus accident – which claimed the life of 6-year-old Kasey King, a Nashport Elementary school kindergartner – happened on June 2nd of 2010 on State Route 60 North. Oler’s bus went off 60, hit a utility pole and flipped. Authorities says King was the first child passenger to die in an Ohio School bus crash in 22 years. Judge Jay Vinsel ordered a pre-sentence investigation and announced that sentencing will happen March 31st. Oler could receive up to 90 days in jail.
