Pedestrian Killed Near Stovertown

A Franklin Ohio man is dead following a Tuesday evening one-vehicle accident near Stovertown.

State Troopers say around 7:30 Tuesday evening, two people were walking in the northbound lanes of State Route 555 going soutbound after their vehicle ran out of gas. Two vehicles were traveling south on 555 when one of the vehicles attempted to pass.

The Highway Patrol says during his pass, 44-year-old Robert Thomas of Crooksville could not see the pedestrians that were walking on the traveled portion of the roadway and the vehicle struck one of the pedestrians. Troopers say killed in the accident was 20-year-old Larry Cates.

The driver of the car was uninjured, but is shaken up, since he did not see the victims.

"They had no reflective clothing on. It was dark clothing as they were walking.  In this area, there’s no lighting," said Lt. Steve Rine.

There were no other injuries in the accident, which remains under investigation.
