Resolution Leads to Awareness
Approximately 150 kids in Coshocton alone have autism. A disorder that affects the brain’s development of social and communication skills. One local woman’s New Year’s Resolution is to help.
"I have a lot of friends whose children are affected by autism," Shaklee product rep, Toni Hammersley.
"I have several friends that have autistic children," said Gold Canyon rep , Sara Lambert.
"I have friends and family that are autistic so I see the struggles that they go through a lot,’ said coordinator Angela Duff.
Almost everyone knows someone with autism. Though unknown how many kids have the disorder, studies show 1 in 110 are on the autism spectrum. Angela Duff made a resolution to help.
"It was new years resolution that I was going to pick an organization that I was going to help out this year and autism is the least funded organization out there so that is why I picked it, said Angela Duff,
It was Facebook that led her to find businesses interested in being at the event.
" I put it out there that I wanted to do this and ask anybody that is an independent consultant that would want to help and everyone of these people stepped up to join me" said Duff.
The candy stand was different than the other tables; 100% of their profits go to the charity.
"We thought it was a good cause and that it would be a lot of help to people for them to get the attention that they need," said Kenzi.
Buying even a purse for yourself can help towards the $5,000 goal. The money will be split between Autism Speaks and the Autism Society of Coshocton.
