Zanesville TaxPayer Center To Close

Ohio’s tax department is moving to close seven regional taxpayer service centers including one in Zanesville. The move will force the layoff of 99 employees at those locations. Notices were emailed to the workers Wednesday, a day after Governor John Kasich unveiled a two-year budget proposal that seeks to plug an 8-billion dollar shortfall. The tax offices will close June 30th. State tax commissioner says the cutbacks are a matter of hard times and hard decisions. He says 80 percent of state tax returns are now filed electronically, allowing the state to close the taxation centers in Zanesville, Akron, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dayton, Toledo and Youngstown. The Zanesville taxpayer center is located at 601 Underwood Street.
