50 Cats Rescued From Newark Home

The Newark Police Department removed over 50 cats from a home this week. Sergeant Scott Snow says on Tuesday officers and Animal Control went to 244 North Fifth Street Apartment A and found 49 cats and eight nursing kittens. Snow says it was alleged by an anonymous caller that the cats were not being properly cared for. Snow says investigators discovered some cats with discharges from the nostrils and what appeared to be eye infections. The animals were fed and watered then taken to Tiny Paws Kitten Rescue and evaluated by a veterinarian. The vet found that numerous cats suffered from eye and respiratory infections, diarrhea, malnutrition and one had a form of herpes virus. The Newark Law Director’s Office is considering criminal charges in the case. Anyone who would like to adopt one of the cats or make donations of food, litter or money contact Tiny Paws Rescue at 740 349-3254.
