Creating Stronger Youth

Community leaders discuss ways to create stronger fathers and families in Muskingum County.

Friday’s Leadership Summit on Fatherhood is the third step in a process to assess the needs of Muskingum County and find a way to provide help to fathers and find a way to raise funds for organizations that help families.

"Father absences is the number one social problem affecting this country and we’re attempting to get every father, this is our message to make an investment, a financial and emotional investment in his child," said the Ohio Commission on Fatherhood’s Executive Director Tracy Robinson.

One of the community members taking part in the discussion is an intervention specialist for neglected youth who works at the detention center and with local schools. She said raising a successful child begins with family.

"It really starts at home and so the fatherhood initiative and the ability to get families involved in their youth is very important, " said Intervention Specialist Maureen Montgomery.

At the end of this summit a report will be put together in order to shed more light on our communities needs. Muskingum County was selected as one of 12 in Ohio to host a leadership summit.
