Smart Drugs not so Smart
The use of ‘smart drugs’ among college students has become a growing concern across the country.
Adderall, a medication normally prescribed for attention deficit disorder has become a popular drug for students to take while doing homework or taking tests.
"Even though the nickname is ‘smart drug’, it doesn’t make you smarter, it just helps you focus more," said Executive Director Steve Carrel of Muskingum Behavioral Health.
Carrell said these medications are prescribed for a purpose. There are consequences to taking the drug, it could lead to health issues and even addiction.
"Folks can lose parts of their life to the addiction, they can end up doing worse in school because their focus isn’t on doing school work anymore, it’s how can I raise enough money, how can I get enough money to buy this drug that I am addicted to," he said.
He encourages parents to become educated on drug abuse and to talk to their children about it.
