Eagles Raise Funds for Kidney Transplant
Basketball, baseball, and swimming may seem like every day activities, but for a 22 year-old who has been diagnosed with a devastating illness, these sports are nothing short of a miracle.
At age seven, Corey Evans, was diagnosed with a Kidney Disease. He has since lost his hearing and eye sight. His mom, Misty Matheney, said, he still enjoys playing his favorite sports, but they just take a lot more out of him.
"He’s very energetic for the disease that he’s got," said Muskingum County Eagle’s Secretary, Bill Rucker. "He trys to keep active which may help him out in the long run, really. And, basically, he’s just a young kid that shouldn’t have to go through all this already. "
Corey has encountered a lot of unexpected medical expenses when he found out his employer’s health insurance would not cover all the costs.
His mother, Misty Matheney said, "It has been quite a struggle. He did end up with some issues, with money and things like that, trying to get things going, but it’s coming together for him."
Rucker said, this is when the eagles decided to step in. They hosted a benefit for Corey this Saturday afternoon, which will help pay for Corey’s upcoming Kidney Transplant. Rucker said, they will raise as much money as they can, but more is always appreciated. If you would like to donate, you can contact Bill Rucker at the Muskingum County Eagles.
