Seniors Go Back to School, Graduate

Graduation season has already passed, but for some residents, they are putting a new meaning behind what it means to be a senior.

Primrose Retirement Community held a graduation ceremony for twelve of its residents Thursday afternoon. It’s called Primrose Senior University. Seniors completed a 12 week course that included topics such as communication and living a healthy lifestyle to help stimulate the minds of those 60 and over.

"Many of them have said to me I never thought I would have a cap and gown on after 73 years, but they are here today to graduate from their first class," said Shala Steinman, Executive Director Primrose Retirement Community.

Seniors came to class every week armed and ready with their notebooks and notes ready to learn.

"My favorite part was meeting people and talking to them and listening to all the new facts that we gathered from the computer," said Graduate Faye White.

Primrose puts on the program twice a year. Once in the fall and spring and is even open to residents who do not live at the facility.
