Flames Destroy Mount Perry Home

Flames destroy a Mount Perry home late Thursday afternoon

Newton Township Fire Chief Allen Deaver says crews were called around 4:30 Thursday to 2785 Slack Road. He says the fire started in the attic and then quickly spread to the first floor completely engulfing the home in flames. That’s when firefighters ran out of water.

"Shortly there after South Zanesville showed up, gave us the water they had, since then it’s been a fight to establish the water supply," said Deaver.

We spoke with the homeowner’s father, who helped his daughter remodel the home over the years.

"We had talked this morning about siding, we we’re going to put siding on the front of it and change the color, just different things that she had hopes for so she’s pretty shook up," said Don Watson.

Fire officials say three dogs were pulled from the home but possibly two more may have died in the fire.

"What do you say, what do you say, it’s not the first one that it’s happened to and it won’t be the last one," said Watson.

No injuries were reported and the cause is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office. It’s unclear whether or not smoke detectors were in use. The Muskingum Valley Red Cross has been called in to assist.
