Military Families Can Save Money on Groceries
Military families can stock up and save money on groceries this weekend.
The Wright Patterson Air Force Base Commissary is hosting an on-site sale at the Ohio Army National Guard Armory in McConnelsville. The building may look empty now, but by Saturday, it will be packed with food and other items that cost 40-60% less than retail prices.
Staff Sergeant John Lambert said this close-to-home location makes this sale even more affordable for service members.
"They say it’s really nice having a mobile commissary actually come out in the community," said Lambert. "I know Columbus has one, we have one once a year, and there are different places around the state that have them. It’s a really good opportunity, rather than driving to Dayton with gas prices and everything. With gas to get up there and gas to get back, you won’t really save anything."
The event is open to all authorized commissary shoppers. Lambert said it’s a wonderful feeling to reach out to so many military families.
"With the job market and everything, a lot of soldiers need help, and this is a good opportunity for them to help," said Lambert. "You don’t have to pay a fee or anything to come in here. You just come in with your ID card and purchase stuff at a cheaper price."
The sale will take place this Saturday from 10 to 5 and Sunday from 10 to 4.
