Blue Devils Bond Before First Game

The Zanesville Blue Devils are starting a new season with a familiar tradition.

The football team walked from the high school to HoneyBaked Ham on Maple Avenue.  Owner Mike Alfman said the dinner brings back memories.

"I always like to have the Newark game," said Alfman.  "I played in the 70s, and I enjoy being around the players and coaches, just being a part of the tradition of Zanesville football."

Zanesville Head Football Coach Chad Grandstaff said the tradition brings his team together.  He said he got the idea from the Buckeyes.

"Ohio State always walks the players from the hotel into the stadium," said Grandstaff.  "There’s always a lot of fans there to see them, so I thought it would be a good way for our guys to walk together, spend time together and meet some people who support our program."

The Blue Devils will take on the Newark Wildcats at home on Friday.  Kick-off is set for 7:30 PM.
