New Porecelain Exhibit in Zanesville

A contemporary porcelain exhibit is displaying a unique touch of color at the Zanesville Museum of Art.

Artist Gail Russell has worked with porcelain for more than 37 years. Her infatuation with the art began as a child and has continued to grow through her enthusiasm for gardening and appreciation for nature.

"I can’t pin it down, I was just always interested even as a kid with working in clay, making things with my hands in the dirt," explained Russell. "Also interested in geology, so art and geology come together in clay."

Today Russell creates not only decorative art, but functional porcelain pieces that are enhanced by intense glazes, such as copper reds and ash. Russell’s unique creations caught the eye of Zanesville Museum of Art Director Susan Talbot-Stanaway.

"I think everyone will especially enjoy these pieces the color are just truly splendid and very brilliant, and vivid," said Talbot-Stanaway, "which is something that is very unusual in contemporary pottery."

Russell’s work is now on display at the Zanesville Museum of Art from now until December 3rd. Her collection includes more than 100 pieces.
